Support our local shops

This message comes from Sue Cartwright.

YasarWe have heard that Yasar’s shop is struggling to survive. It has been a delightful asset to our local shopping area for the past 18 years. Owned by Yasar and Anna (Hanife), both of whom work in the shop full time, it is a treasure trove of Mediterranean food as well as excellent quality fruit and veg.

A wonderful fresh deli counter offers different varieties of olives, homemade houmous, taramasalata, stuffed vine leaves, seafood salad, mezzes and much more, mostly freshly made daily by Anna. Among the jars on the shelf you can find preserved lemon slices and other goodies. Different types of Feta and other cheeses vie for attention with loaves of bread, boxes of Turkish delight and organic eggs. The large range of olive oil is cheaper and better tasting than in the supermarkets and their pasta is cheaper as are many other products. The Turkish yoghurt is thick and creamy but low in calories and good value.

There is a range of organic food, with everything you could think of. Much of the beautifully displayed fruit and veg is also organic and although it may not be as cheap as in some of the rather transient local convenience shops, its quality is well worthwhile. Nowhere else locally can you find such lovely fresh spinach and herbs.

Best of all, it is open from early in the morning until late at night.

So often in a recession, well loved local shops disappear. Yasar has served the Cally well, let’s makes sure we make good use of the shop. It would be a shame to lose such a treasure.
