This is a social enterprise that is run by volunteers and gives its profits to two local homeless shelters, for men at Highway House and for women. It offers vegetarian and vegan dishes every day except Sunday.

A new bakery on Caledonian Road

The Sunflour Bakery, formerly in Borough Market, has taken over the premises previously occupied by the Iranian bakery in Caledonian Road. It is now baking a fine variety of high quality breads, cakes and pastries, and offering hot food and drinks every day except Sunday.

A new wholefood shop on Caledonian Road

A new wholefood shop opened at 290 Caledonian Road (almost opposite Iceland) just before the end of last year. It sells healthy, organic and “free from” foods, and various other products. It offers home delivery as well as being open from early in the morning until late at night from Monday to Saturday. The owner, Amit, is looking to build his stock and client base. Supporting his efforts would let us see this local business grow.

The Farm Direct food ordering service

Farm Direct is a food ordering service, based just by Highbury Fields, that allows Islington residents to order food from the Home Counties.

Much more than just a veg box scheme, it is a grocer, butcher and fishmonger rolled into one, offering meat, veggies, fruit, fish, bakery, dairy, home made foods (made in Highbury) – all British, and all supporting local and smaller scale food producers. No tie-ins or weekly commitments – open Friday to Sunday each week.
